Internet, meet Bev. Bev, meet internet.

Anyone who does makeup on other people will know that feeling of pure pride when the person you’re making up looks in the mirror and goes “Holy sh*t, I look amazing”. But when your Mum does it – that’s when you know you’ve done good.

To those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of coming across my mum on the internet, your life has only just begun. She will undoubtedly be making a few guest appearances within my blog because, let’s be honest, I’m completely incapable without her. I felt this sort of blog post was a good place to start in my Beauty category and I hope you’ll agree as Bev is quite the character.

Makeup on the more ‘mature’ lady  was something I’ve only recently been able to figure out. In comparison to me, my mum has soft features and light eyes with the only trace of eyebrows being the few she spared upon teenage plucking and the tattoos she had inked on a few years back.

I wanted to share a few tips and tricks I’ve learnt from doing Bev’s makeup (particularly eye makeup) which may help some of you out when doing someone else’s makeup or maybe even your own.

With a slightly less defined crease, it’s so important to keep the crease blending controlled and I think the same goes for hooded lids. I used a selection of Zoeva brushes as well as my trusty Morphe palettes to get a subtle pink tone locked in. Holding the skin up by the eyebrow and using the brush in an outwards circular motion with minimal product really helped me to make sure the pigment was blended but not all the way up to her forehead…something I’ve learnt the hard way.

My favourite part of Bev’s makeup was the liner. As her features aren’t dark, black liner is far too harsh. She uses a blue gel liner most of the time but for a pink eye look, I wasn’t too comfortable with that colour mixture. Maybe for Coachella it’d be fine…Ascot races however – not so much. For the shades I was using, I wanted a deep pink liner to really make the lid pop. The only shade I knew would fit was Kat Von D’s Everlasting Lipstick in Damned. That’s what lipstick is for, right? Eyeliner? I used my Zoeva wing liner brush and Bev’s liner was fleeky in 5 seconds. A wing doesn’t suit my mum so to give it some purpose, I blended it up into her outer corner (a 10/10 decision).

Now. Eyebrows. Eye. Brows. What a thing. I never used to be obsessed with them until I realised how fun they are to draw on. My favourite way to do eyebrows is by using eyeshadow (which is risky, I know) but I find it way easier to shape than a pencil and much easier to control. You can also create loads more shades by mixing shadow colours together which I find super useful. I used my Zoeva brow brush to create the shape over the top of her existing brows and filled them in still with the shadow. Obviously once they’re in place they don’t exactly look natural, so to give it a bit more depth I take my Soap & Glory Archery Brow Liner (essentially a felt tip for brows) and draw on lines to make them look like hairs. Voila – you have brows.

There’s obviously a whole lot more to a face full of makeup than sneaky liner tricks and eyebrows but as everyones skin type and preferences are different I didn’t want to bore you with the rest of the details (unless you really want them).

I hope this helps at least one of you out there who feel uninspired about makeup. If not, I hope you enjoyed it regardless.
